Why did we build PLUM?

To create better care outcomes for our members.

Rates differ wildly from provider to provider and location to location without any direct correlation to quality or outcomes, and there is no clear transparency into those providers or those healthcare systems.

What do you call the person that graduated last in their class at Med School? A DOCTOR. 

Even within a high performing healthcare system, there can be a provider that underperforms.

Unless you work within a healthcare system, you probably have no idea which doctor is performing at the highest standards and has the best patient outcomes. Most provider rating systems are simply opinions and not based in data or patient results.

Here’s how PLUM measures provider quality:

• Actual results vs. expected results: how well a doctor performs
• Cost for full care: from the first visit to follow-up‑ care
• Patient needs: age, health risks, and type of care needed
• Low value care: avoidable ER visits or treatments people don’t need

PLUM is simple to use!

How to find a PLUM Provider:

• Log in to your Difference Card Account (mobile app or online).
• Click PLUM Search.
• Type in your location and the type of care you need.
• Click Find PLUM Provider.

Your results will show providers near you. The best performing ones will have a purple PLUM icon.

When you click a provider, you’ll see:

• Their Quality Score
• Their Appropriateness Score
• Their Cost Score
• Insights about how well they perform

The more you explore, the easier it becomes to choose great providers.
